One of the most important things you can do to take care of your body is to drink plenty of water, and here are three reasons why.

1. You don’t get enough fluids through food alone.

Sure, you can get a moderate amount of fluid through the foods you eat, but it won’t be enough to meet your body’s needs for water. Mayo Clinic notes that while adequate water intake varies per person, a good rule of thumb is that if you don’t feel thirsty and your urine is colorless or a light yellow color, you’re probably getting the right amount. To make that happen, it becomes important for you to drink throughout the day and at meals.

2. Reduce calorie intake.

Do you drink a lot of soda or juice? Are you trying to lose weight or stick to a specific number of calories consumed each day? One simple way to reduce your calorie intake (if this has been recommended by your physician) is to substitute water when you may have had a caloric beverage. Water has zero calories, and your body needs it anyway. Win-win!

3. You’ve amped up the exercise.

If you work out or you recently started getting more exercise, you may also want to increase your water intake. All that sweating causes your body to lose more water. Therefore, you may need to drink more to replace liquid lost.
