Hello, cool weather. Hello, cold virus. That seems to be how it goes here in Indiana, right? The combination of kids back in school and change in temperatures seems to be the perfect concoction for illness to set in. Health Tips

1. Wash your hands often.

Be sure to wash your hands with warm water and soap often to fend off germs, especially when you use the restroom, have been out in public, or are going to eat. If you don’t have access to soap and water, carry some hand sanitizer with you to use on such occasions. If you have kids, help them wash their hands too.

2. Stay away from sick people.

Certain professions (or even having kids) can make this tip pretty impossible. However, if you can, do your best to stay away from people who are sick or at least minimize your direct contact with them.

3. Drink plenty of water & eat well.

A healthy body is better able to fight off viruses. Part of being healthy is paying attention to what you eat and drink. We recommend that you eat a colorful plate (lots of fruits and veggies), and make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day.

4. Rest.

A worn-out body is more likely to have a weakened immune system and struggle to fend off illness. Health reports that “your body can fight off the illness better if you’re well-rested.” So make sure you get the sleep you need each night and try to fit in a nap or two on the weekend.

If you do all these things and still find yourself at the mercy of the common cold, keep doing them. These tips can not only help prevent a cold, but it can also help you recover from one faster.
