Compounding Pharmacy Health TipsAt Eagle Highland Pharmacy, we have many people come through our doors for prescriptions and remedies. The sad part is that many of these illnesses could have easily been avoided just by being more proactive with proper hand washing. While many people know that hand washing is important, most people don’t know all the ins and outs of why. Even fewer people do it when they should.

According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, you should wash your hands before, during, and/or after all the following:

  • Using the restroom
  • Food preparation
  • Eating
  • Caring for others
  • Changing diapers
  • Helping someone go to the restroom
  • Blowing your nose
  • Coughing
  • Sneezing
  • Coming in contact with an animal or animal waste
  • Touching garbage

That’s quite the list, right? Our guess is that many of us are diligent about washing our hands after using the restroom or before making a meal, but few of us wash our hands after every single thing on this list every single day. That failure to wash hands properly with soap and water (or using hand sanitizer when soap and water aren’t available) allows germs that cause disease and infection to spread. Even if you don’t get sick, you can contaminate others without even knowing it.

With kids going back to school and holidays soon approaching, none of us can afford to spread illness or get caught with one. That’s why our compounding pharmacy team at Eagle Highland encourages Indianapolis residents to use proper hand-washing techniques multiple times a day, especially after coming in contact with someone who is ill. Be sure also to pick up some hand sanitizer gel or wipes at our pharmacy to help prevent germs on the go.
